X -showconfig will display which version of X is running

Keyboard shortcuts
KDE & GNOME
Alt+F4 = Close window
Alt+Tab = Switch between open apps
Alt+Left click (on a window) = Move window
Ctrl+Alt+D = Minimize/Maximize all open windows (toggle)
Ctrl+Alt+F1 thru F6 = open a text console tty1-tty6
Ctrl+Alt+F7 = go back to X-windows session
Left click+Right click = equivalent to a 3rd mouse button click, will allow you to move an icon around in the taskbar.

From within File Manager
Alt+Up arrow = Go up one directory level
F2 = Rename selected file

KDE
From within File Manager (konqueror)
F9 = Hide/show navigation side panel (toggle)
In konqueror man pages can be accessed by entering man:<program name> in the address/location bar.

Apps:
kpersonalizer - initial setup wizard for the desktop environment. I prefer the "Windows" system behavior.
kdepasswd - change your password via a dialog box

GNOME
Alt+F9 = Minimize window
Alt+F12 = Rollup window (toggle)
Alt+F10 = Maximize window
Alt+F2 = Open Run Prompt
F1 = Opens Help browser for current app
Ctrl+Alt+Right arrow = Switch to next workspace
Ctrl+Alt+Left arrow = Switch to previous workspace

From within File Manager
Alt+Home = Go to current user's home directory
Ctrl+L = Go to location by entering its path
Backspace = Go up one directory level
Alt+Down arrow = Go down one directory level
