raiser’s edge: lost password to sample database

if the password is lost to the sample database’s Supervisor account the easiest solution may be to detach the old sample database and reattach a fresh copy from: https://www.blackbaud.com/support/downloads/sample.aspx

decline any BBPS options during initial database access.

update 4/10/2013:
if you rename the sample database to something different the DSN entries on workstations will still point to the old entry.
related reg key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackbaud\REINI_50\General

so…best to keep the database name the same.

update 4/24/2013:
*very important*
found out from BB support that anytime you make ANY slight alteration to the database settings the workstations will attempt to refresh their database info. this typically is not a problem…but it is for non-Admin users with UAC enabled. and apparently if RE isn’t ran as an Admin the first time after database changes then things get kind of messed up. for instance, users will immediately receive “invalid login” when trying to login with RE.

if things progress to this state all is not lost…
the solution is to delete BBUpdate.ini located in c:\users\<username>\appdata\local\virtualstore\program files\blackbaud\the raisers edge 7

then run RE as an Admin have the user login. close RE.
open regedit and rename HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Blackbaud to something else. close regedit and run RE normally and the problem should be resolved.
