i’m not sure how this occurs but it somehow did. somehow the sent items folder associated with an exchange mailbox can be renamed…even though the option to do so is greyed out in OWA and the outlook client. whether you are logged in directly to that mailbox or whether you have full access to that mailbox, it’s still greyed out.

there is a fairly easy way to resolve this problem. log in with the affected account on a machine with outlook installed. then from the command line browse to the MS office folder that contains outlook.exe and run outlook.exe /resetfoldernames.
