dell latitude e6510 – hdmi audio

more than a year ago i spent an entire weekend trying to get HDMI audio out working on a latitude e6510. the video worked fine, but i was stuck with no audio. i remember trying just about everything to get it to work. i was having one of those moments where you feel like such a moron because you can’t get something so simple to work.

the problem turned out to be the version of the nvidia driver i was using. i rolled back to an older release – nvidia NVS 3100M version 8.16.11.8974 and the HDMI audio out functionality was restored. all the newer driver releases seemed to break this functionality. i had an idea of installing the old functional driver first and then doing a custom installation of the new driver…then choosing not to install the newer audio drivers. i never got around to testing that idea.

the HDMI setup i had going on has become unimportant to me, as i have an alternate method of accomplishing what i wanted to. so i probably will never mess around with this again…i just wanted to notate the solution in case it ever did become important to me again.
